Sweep your stair and remove debris before you start fixing. If they don't need any major repair, you will still probably have small cracks and scratches to fix. That needs to be done before the paint comes on. Find some products available in stores and ask staff for some advice on best product, best price and easiest way to fix it, as each area has different offers.
Step 2: Clean The Surface
You may be surprised to - but concrete needs a good scrub before getting painted, especially outdoors. There is a lot of grime that could have accumulated over time. If your stairs are not so filthy, you can create solution of warm soapy water and scrub them. In case you have tougher stains, you will probably need a concrete cleaner. It's a bit harsher so you will need gloves and carefully follow the instructions.
Let the stairs dry completely before next step.
Step 3: Plan The Design
If you want to get creative on your steps, you need to get the tape and mark where you want to paint. Be careful to measure all sides to make it evenly. Painter's tape will block the areas on walls and floors so you don't mess up any area around your steps.
Step 4: Primer
Primer is one of the most important things before painting. It's important to clean, remove all debris and get ready to place primer on your concrete. Some concrete paints don't need a primer, check the label and recommendations before you start.
Step 5: Paint
Finally, you can paint your steps in the color of your choice. Try to get the paint evenly on all surfaces. it is best to do it in two coats, especially if you are using lighter colours. Try to cover all areas evenly, as you will see a massive difference once the paint dries. Leave it to dry for at least 24 hours.
Now you have a fresh new look for your concrete steps!
