Our first bit of advice however, would be to toss the lotions. Instead opt for body oils and butters as well as salves for the worst of the worst dry, damaged skin like hands and feet.
Hemp seed oil is probably our favorite oil for eczema and dry skin, and as it’s a “dry” oil, you don’t have to sweat it feeling greasy or staining your clothing. You can also sub it for any of the carrier oils in the following recipes.
DIY Dry Skin Body Oil Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 oz. Hemp seed oič
- 1.5 oz. Argan oil
- 2 oz. Jojoba oil
- .5 oz. Rosehip seed oil or tamanu oil
- 1 ml vitamin E oil
- 1/2 ml rosemary extract
- 2 ml of essential oil of choice, optional
Instructions:
Weigh out the carrier oils for this recipe using a digital kitchen scale into a glass measuring cup. Next, using a different plastic transfer pipette for each oil, measure out the vitamin E and rosemary extract and add to the container of oils. If desired, you can also add up to 2 ml of your favorite essential oil(s) or up to 4 ml of your favorite fragrance oil.
After bathing, apply this body oil all over concentrating on areas that need the most love. Follow with a natural body butter or salve on areas affected by unbearably itchy dry skin or eczema.
Natural Homemade Lanolin & Neem Salve Recipe
Neem oil is such a great natural oil as it’s so versatile and offers a plethora of benefits. It has been shown to be effective in assisting those suffering dry itchy skin, redness and skin irritation as well as psoriasis, eczema, scabies and even head lice. It is also naturally anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal and works great innatural dog products to help discourage biting insects, ticks and fleas. Neem oil can also be helpful for dogs suffering from skin disorders or fungal infections.
Therefore we decided to incorporate into our latest all natural handmade lanolin salve recipe along with natural rosewood essential oil. Rosewood oil has been shown to help with skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, acne, and dry skin as well as treat minor fungal infections and wounds.
Ingredients:
- 1 oz. beeswax
- 4 oz. Pure lanolin
- 50 oz. Virgin cold press pumpkin seed oil
- 50 oz. Crafter's choice Oil Soluble Botanic Extract Blend or Calandula infused Olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon neem oil
- 30 drops plus 1/4 teaspoon pure rosewood essential oil
- 15 drops cedarwood essential oil
- 12 drops rosemary extract
- 12 drops GMO free vitamin E
Supplies:
- Digital kitchen scale
- Four 2 oz. Low profile plastic jars or tins in size of choice
- Glass Pyrex Measuring Cup
- Metal Utensil for Stirring
- Plastic Transfer Pipettes
- Microwave
Instructions:
Begin by weighing out the beeswax using a digital kitchen scale in a glass Pyrex measuring cup. Melt the beeswax in the microwave on high approximately 2-4 minutes. Carefully remove from the microwave using a pot holder. (The handle and container will be very hot.) Weigh out the lanolin and stir into the melted beeswax. Continue stirring until the lanolin has melted completely. Next, weigh out the botanical extract or calendula infused oil and the pumpkin seed oil and stir into the lanolin and beeswax. Using a different pipette and/or measuring spoon for each oil, add the neem oil, rosewood, and cedarwood essential oils, rosemary extract and vitamin E. Stir well then pour equally into four 2 oz. containers. Allow to cool, then cap tightly and store in a cool, dry location.
Calendula Ointment Recipe
Create a healing salve with a calendula infusion, essential oils and butters. Calendula is known for it’s skin care properties and is widely used to soothe inflammation, control bleeding and heal damaged skin tissue making it perfect for use in ointments and salves.
Ingredients:
- 1 oz. of olive oil and 1 oz. of sweet almond oil (infused with calendula petals heated at 170 degrees for 20 mins, then let sit till cool)
- 3 oz. coconut oil
- 1 oz. beeswax
- 1/2 oz. mango butter
- 1/2 oz. shea butter
- 15 drops chamomile essential oil
- 30 drops lavender essential oil
- 30 drops tea tree essential oil
- 1 tsp vitamin E
Instructions:
Combine all ingredients and heat to melt. Stir and pour into containers.
Lavender & Peppermint Foot Cream
Ingredients:
- 1/8 Cup Cocoa Butter
- 1/2 teaspoon Beeswax
- 1 1/8 Cup Refined Shea Butter
- 1/4 Cup Aloe Butter
- 1/8 Cup Avocado Oil
- 1/8 Cup Liquid Vegetable Glycerin
- 1 Tablespoon Vitamin E Oil
- 1 teaspoon Tea Tree Oil
- 1 1/2 Tablespoons Lavender or Lavender 40/42 Essential Oil
- 1 teaspoon Peppermint Essential Oil
- 1 Tablespoon Mountain rose herbs Restorative skin oil
Instructions:
Melt the butters and beeswax over low heat on the stove or at half power in the microwave just until melted. Mix well, then stir in the remaining ingredients. Whip in a blender or using a hand blender. Pour evenly into four 4oz. plastic or glass jars. Allow to cool and harden completely, about two days. For a thicker cream, double your amounts of cocoa butter and/or beeswax.
For a cooling sensation in your foot cream, add menthol crystals.
